Athlete Spotlight: Lydia E.
Lydia's hair looking AWESOME at last year's Nor-Cal Quals
This week we turn our spotlight on Lydia Encinas, a regular in our evening and weekend classes. Lydia inspires a lot of us with her incredible drive and love of competition. She is very fun to watch during a power clean WOD as she makes these amazing twirls and circles, reminiscent of an Olympic figure skater.
Lydia is, not surprisingly, very successful in her career outside of CF as well. She recently won the Top Performer of 2009 in her job class as the #1 salesperson in the state of CA. She received a trophy, prizes and an all-inclusive first class trip to NYC for two (remember our deal for this post, Lydia)
Post congrats and general thoughts on Lydia to comments.
Height: 5’11”

goddamn i hate giant umbrellas
I was going to congratulate you for being 175lbs of stank hotness, but after seeing that you want to dominate me...it's on!!! Seriously Mikey, can we stop using the word "athlete" for these profiles.
tami did you make this comment from your malibu pilates machine?
That one, like swoll, sent me to the Urban Dictonary. Congrats, Lyd, for all your CF gains, work success, and general bad-assedness.
Oh Mike, asking a girl her age and weight? Dangerous start.
Mike would never dream of asking a girl her age and weight ;)
i love the word STANK, reminds me of high school and prison.
Can I just say that I loved all of Lydia's responses, but when I saw her pic above, I busted up in seeing Cheryl in the background looking like a worried mom that her little girl was about to do the grand finale in her ballet recital!
After reading the transcript of your interview I have concluded that we have soooo much in common. Our job, our stats, our most desired goal, etc.. One question though, was this interview from a long time ago? Because your most desired goal has most definitely already been accomplished.
You rock!
Lydia, you just need to go to the Dominican Replublic and throw back a couple of avocados and a mango or two. That should put another 10 lbs of muscle on you and you will be able to body slam Tami at will. Please don't hurt me, Tami.
Lydia - Your eye-of-the-tiger-ness has been inspiring me to step it up lately. Thanks for that. And that hair...
I did notice that the interviewer did not ask specifically about the hair; it's a little disappointing. Lydia's ability to go to the dark place on a daily basis is inspiring and spurs me on even when there is eighties music playing. Also, as you can tell from her answers above, she is very humble and won't tell you this herself, but she is not just number one in Ca, she's number one in THE WHOLE BANK.
I think she's awesome!
Get it Lyd! :) "Stank Hotness" is an excellent descriptor... love it.
Tom we are officially fighting.
Candace should win an award for her super cheesy posts. Please put the Thesauras away.
...at delegation. She has other people secure her platform space, set up her bar, and, heck, she even has Robyn copying and pasting diet programs into Word documents for her. I can only assume that, like all evil successful people, she delegates at work too. Climbing the ladder of success on the backs of the little people.
Congrats on your successes Lydia! I am not at all surprised... Your drive and love of competition is definitely an inspiration and motivating for everyone around you. Keep up the good work...you definitely know what's going on if the backsquat is your favorite strength move! ;)
I love your day job, Being Awesome! I remember when you first started coming to CFO and you called me a Monster, well, Lydia you are Awesome Monster!! You are the highest ranked Awesome Monster ever! I'm surprised folks mention your hair, but I notice your illustrious attention to eye shadow! Sometimes I am mesmerized for a few minutes and can't even start warming up because of your...Eyes! They change color all the time! Well seriously, you also win for Most Friendly and Best Cheerleader as well... Can't wait to see you through 2010!
I thought it might be a good idea to review the five levels of "Awesome" -
- Almost Awesome - def: on the cusp of awesomeness, but not quite there. See Banks, Brandon
- Acceptably Awesome - def: pretty cool, grading on a curve, they get the nod. See Minium, Mike
- Arguably Awesome - def: somewhat of an unknown character. Typically a shy, somewhat reticent person. With added exposure, the individuals awesomeness becomes clear. See Lee (no last name needed)
- Always Awesome - def: generally reserved as a lifetime achievement award. See Socks, Funny
The fifth level of Awesomeness is......
- "Lydia" - def: Difficult to define, but suffice to say it's more nature than nurture, a combination of brains, beauty and street toughness, with a touch of compassion for those less fortunate and we have AWESOME!
please note - the boyfriend selection of the "Lydia" level of awesome clearly does not effect one's level of one's awesomeness.
Lydia - You certainly do rock, but I must put my money on Tamara when you guys finally get to your grudge match. Same goes for when Tamara and Tom get it on. Please don't hate me.
Really, thanks for all the love. I was a little worried and hesitant to check the blog today after I saw Robyn's statement of, "Post congrats and general thoughts on Lydia to comments," sort of left the door wide open there- thanks T for kicking it down!
I'm blessed to know all of you and work with you on a daily basis. CF brings so much more to our lives than just fitness and I am truly grateful for everyone's contributions. CFO, especially, is a Great Team- special Thanks to our Fearless leader, Mikey who takes a lot of shit and hands it right back to us in the form of a 45 min heavy metcon from Hell. Thanks to you, CFO will take it back this year at the Games, count on it!
I completely agree with Lydia's assessment of her biggest improvement. She killed that NorCal A workout! I love reading/seeing/hearing about those types of performance-related improvements. That's what it's all about.
Anyone know how I can sign up for sectionals? I went to the main site and clicked on register, but it only lead to me to a page that pertained to the regionals. Maybe this is ANOTHER sign that I shouldn't do the qualifiers? Anyone that could help please send me an email.
Thanks
i used to feel sorry for manwell when lydia was "coaching" him in a workout.
can you imagine what it must have been like for the poor bastard at the bank trying to get between her and the #1 spot?
lydia, your intensity is awe inspiring.
Lydia, you show the meanest stare of determination/competition and the strongest words of encouragement all within the same minute. That's what CF is all about! And you still don't own any Lulu's (as far as I know....). That is proof of some major strength!!
Both of my daughters always ask me if "that really pretty tall lady" was at the gym...
When I say "Yes, Lyd was there" they then ask if Dimas was there too, because second to the really pretty tall lady, Dimas is their fave.
Needless to say, Lyd, you are quite an inspiring role model for grown-ups and kids alike!
actually, lydia did own a pair of lulu's for a brief period of time ;)
thats an awesome time for that Qualifier wod lydia!
I first met Lydia at the Nor Cal Qualifers in 2009 and watched her struggle with the Burpee/Overhead WOD. That determination and fortitude has led her to be an overhead machine, she killed today's WOD. The improvement is vast and she's still got so much potential. Way to go Lyd!
Lydia E, your positiveness both in the gym and out is inspirational. We all benefit.
Late to respond here but just wanted to echo others' comments. Lydia is a great inspiration and person. Keep up the hard work!
