I would like to learn how to catch a clean in a squat, do a push jerk without pressing, become comfortable with hang cleans, deadlift #200+, increase front and back squat.

Last night I was at Lake Merritt all by myself, awaiting my compadres to join me in a nice 5K run. Alas, no one was to be found near the columns by the fountain, nor at the pullup bars. I did, however, do the run in a blistering time of 25:20.

I want to lift as much as Natalie does.

I want to have a ghost of myself step forward out of my body as I stand up with perfect form after catching a snatch in a deep, deep squat. Then we'll high five each other and jump about 10 feet up in the air like Pyros Dimas and hope no one notices that there was only 95 lbs on the bar.

That is my Olympic dream.

***SORRY, OFF-TOPIC***

Tomorrow, 4/10, from 6PM-8PM, volunteers from the Oakland community will be stuffing plastic eggs with candy and making brown bag lunches for over 700 kids in preparation for the Mosswood Easter Egg Hunt (a free Easter Egg Hunt for disadvantaged kids). If anyone's interested, e-mail me.

This article on chimp strength (v. human strength) postulates a lot of the difference is due to the granularity of neuron control, and that some human strength limitation is due to "a neural limit to how much muscle we use at one time".

So how do we up our "neural limit"? Is this what's meant by "greasing the groove"?

My snatch needs a lot of work!

I've been asked by management to clarify on Saturday's Tribute WOD at CFS:

The WOD is a "group effort" WOD. You can have teams picked out if you like but it's not necessary. We can set you up in a group if you show up alone or in odd numbers. We're just trying to accomodate possible large numbers.

All teams will be timed but of course, it's not a Throwdown. Just a way to come together and celebrate the four officers and help raise funds for the four families.

I'd like to learn how to translate the strength I've gained on the slow lifts into power on the O-lifts and stop the suckathon that is my clean.

C+J my weight, snatch a dowel.

Leigh, I'm no expert, but if I recall my Rippetoe correctly, development of strength (force) and power (force*distance/time) are somewhat independent. You've built up your strength on the slow lifts, now you just have to work on the fast ones. Angela's Sunday workouts help a lot. Just doing cleans for an hour, and getting tips on each one really makes a difference.

C and J 300.
Snatch...eh who cares...too complicated...
Guess I'll be waiting til next year.

Look who showed up over in my neck of the woods today: http://www.lalannefitness.com/index.php/Main/Comments/nutritious_foods/
