Lauren, Greg, Mini, and Connie

Connie and I had the great privilege of getting to spend a little bit of time with Lauren and Greg Glassman during our holiday vacation. For those of you who may not know, Greg and Lauren are the founders of CrossFit.

Greg is a fascinating guy and I always learn something new from him every time we talk. He continues to be a great influence on me personally and professionally.

Lauren and Greg also think highly of CFO and had nothing but good things to say about the recent CFO videos that have appeared on the CF national site and the CF games site. They were pleased to hear stories about the performances of our athletes, young and old, novice and experienced, elite and otherwise. Mostly, though, they were happy to hear about the type of community we've built.

And since the New Year is upon us, I thought it only fitting to offer up the following: For me, 2008 was about being extremely appreciative of the community we've built. This manifested itself in a more public way at the CF Games, but it's apparent on a day-to-day basis at our gym as well.

So what was the best thing about your 2008 CFO experience? And what are you looking forward to in 2009?

Great job on the wod Nicole!

Oh Brandon.....FGB tomorrow! Which t-shirt will I be wearing tomorrow????

Does anyone want to join me for a fartlek run around Lake Merritt on New Year's Day? I'm going to go at 9a.m. and would love to have some company playing...
I'll park at the bird sanctuary and start from there, rain or shine, I'll be there.

Nicole,I'd like to join you at merritt.

Hands down best 2008 CFO experience was being able to compete in the games with all my friends and having my parents see me be able to hold my own in my heat of the thruster pull up wod...

I have so much to look forward to in 09...

My only regret for 2008 was not discovering CFO sooner. I have really enjoyed my first month and I've never felt so welcomed by a group before. That's really what keeps me coming back for more. My goal for 2009 - to be a monster like Lance and MJJ. Failing which, a muscle up will be nice.

T,

I think I'm going to do FGB on Saturday at 10. Anyone want to do it with me?

Translation: Please clear the gym of all non-essential personnel for my 10am session. All spectators must keep their applause down until I give the signal that I’m ready to receive their adulation. I will of course require no less then 2 bar caddys to keep the weights fitted and positioned correctly. Please have someone available to restrain Tami when I remove my shirt. Also have Pat Barber on speed dial if (when) I crush his pr. Anyone caught breaking these rules will get a stern and aggressive hand gesture. A maneuver that from here on out will be called “getting Thiel’d.” Lastly I will require a ride to CFO in a Ferrari and will depart on a Harley.

everyone should check out the CFJ piece on midline stabilization with K-Star--this work was responsible for my back rehabiliation...good stuff?!

Brandon you should feel flattered, you have clearly made it onto MJJ's stalker wall! (Nabil, please refrain from illustrating my point with a You Tube video).

Nicole, I need to do this. I'll c you there.

The team spirit... the way we all have a common goal and we encourage each other. I've done Crossfit workouts on my own, but nothing beats the intensity achieved at CFO with a little competition, encouragement and correction!

Best experience of 2008 is that I've learned and/or have been forced to pass up many opportunites to post comments that may seem offensive in nature. It is a long process, I understand I will always have these urges, but I am in recovery.

Thank you CFO.

I have also enjoyed S.P.E.C.T.A.T.I.N.G.

for me, it was when i didn't quite tighten my sphincter enough and farted really loudly trying to dig myself out of the hole during a 1RM attempt in the back squat and nobody said anything. got banned from cfnyc for doing that...

so like nabil said, "thank you CFO."

miss you all, happy new year!!

Oh, I love CFO. I remember when I first started, feeling so nervous and intimidated but everyone was warm and welcoming and so hardcore I could barely contain myself. Thanks for always being encouraging and great company , CFO folks.

I think the high point of 2008 for me was reading uhhimu's post above. The eloquence embodied in that comment can hardly be overstated. Uhhimu, may I call you Uh? Well, Uh, I think you are a serious literary talent and I can assure you that publishers will be banging down your door. Your insights into the human condition and existential angst are both profound and original.

I think that 2008 was the year that the medical establishment finally realized that sugar in its various forms is the key to athletic achievement and happiness. There is, perhaps, no better delivery vehicle for sugar than vanilla ice cream, also known as the world's perfect food.

Edgar, you are not alone in your squatting problem. In fact, some people apparently have it even worse. What's more, they write missives to Mark Rippetoe about their squatting woes for all to read. To those that have not yet encountered this discussion thread, it is a must-read. You can thank me later:

Have a good New Year everyone. May the heavy metal gods look favorably upon your endeavors in the 365 days that await you.

I will second P's perspective...having his mom watch me during the thruster / pull-up WOD at the games is something that I will never forget.

...just joking P. My favorite CFO experience, by far, was hanging out with everyone during the Games. Worst CFO experience was the Hill Run at the Games.

LOL!

And being able to watch P's Mom watch him and then watch Brandon was a true high point in my 2008 as well. I too strive for the acceptance from all Moms around the world!

haha wow thats meesed up banks....

P takes a beating on this forum, and now his Mom is in the mix. That says "family".

Sounds like the Games were everyone's favorite moment. For 2009, I will definitely attend to root for CFO to retain The Cup. Everybody (Tami, P, Robyn, Candace, Sherrill, Scott) get well soon, okay?

CFO is truly the best. BIG Thanks to Mike and Nicole, all the trainers, and everyone else, too. See you all in '09.

It's true, i was trying to steal P's mom away from him and make her my own mother, but i could not get her attention away from the man who i think was sponsored by nike

LOL! It took 9 minutes for Brandon to decide if he had crossed the line.

LOL! It took 9 minutes for Brandon to decide if he had crossed the line.

LMAO... But it took over 19 hours for someone to throw back what P just lobbed right into the CFO shark tank, seriously, I am dying over here, but I couldn't say anything for fear that MJJ would be proven right about me ;)

P, you are too funny, or not??

Brandon - I enjoyed our grocery store encounter today

The games weekend was definitely the best! Speaking of, the qualifiers information is up on the main site. Very fancy little competition coming up in May...

Highlight for me was definitely when Wyatt dripped sweat on me.

my highlight was watching MJJ literally start crying like a little puppy out in the rain on his last 6 reps of box jumps in his "Fight Gone Bad to 1000 pts". Which was some awesome work by the way, he did it in 9 FGB rounds.
